Gigabyte 7VTXE+ problems
How ya goin people,
I was hopping that one of u just might have an answer for me,
I have a new motherboard (gigabyte 7vtxe+) with a duron 1g
anyhow i tried to overclock it by drawing a line joining the bridges,
when i put the cpu back in the comp it powerd-up but did nothing else. I thought that i had damaged the cpu so i brought a new one & well guess what, even worse,
The system now powers-up for about 5 seconds & shuts it self off,
the fans & powersupply turn off URRRRR I cannot get into the bois because she shuts down to fast..is it a heating prob?
if u have any idea of what might be the prob please let me know,
The only thing i can think of is to bye a cheap M/B & try that & if it dont work bye another cpu.........if only i had left it alone

have you checked your temps?
I know that some boards refuse to boot up if temps aren't in a safe limit. Check your HS is firmly attached and a thin layer of Artic Silver (or any thermal compound) is applied.
Other than that, check your manual FSB setting and multipliers, you may be making that Duron die the death.

It seems that starting with the Duron 1 GIG the multiplier is locked. The only way to overclock them is the same as overclocking the Intel chips, that is by uping the FSB. Be carefull though, the AMD chips overheat far easier than the Intels.

Well thanks for ur posts guys
The sys bus is set at 100mhz as it is the only option i have on the board, everything else is set in the bios.
The board has the duel bios not that it is helping me.
I think that is a good point about the temps DOC, the HS is attached ok & paste is applied, i have the board out of the case with only the CPU,RAM & video card installed, althoe maybe i should try it under the aircon hey!!

Gone Forever.......
Rockin' Ron you are incorrect with your statement, A duron multipliers are locked, however they can be unlokced with laquear or other stuff, so they can also be OC by their Multiplier. Not just their FSB like an Intel chip.

Yes, you just need to join the L1 bridges for the multipliers and the L7 bridges for the voltages.

Well thanks guys for ur tips on overclocking
although i just want my computer up & going again
I rang the computer supplier today & told them that something had happend to the cpu so i brought a new one, & well it doesnt work....the comp shuts down in 5 seconds..
They said i should send it back & they will replace (probably) the motherboard...they think that there is a power surge or something running through the board.
I tried unlocking the multiplier by joining the L1 bridges
Then i was going to set the voltage & FSB in the bios
but i didnt get that far....
Well thanks again for ur veiws on this problem...

Sry My bad It Is the 1300 Durons on up that are clock locked

hmm,
Sorry but you are wrong again(I think)
The 1.3 duron shares the same exact core as the lower morgan processors. They aren't locked an neither are the 1.3
(The durons only go to 1.3 their is no up)
