I use Ghost 6.5 to image my machines. It allows you to create an image with no compression or high compression. I can install W2K, Office, all drivers and apps and easily compress it to fit on a CD.

Best thing to do is complete a fresh install them image the drive. Then I will install all my apps and image again. This way you have a fresh copy to restore or restore your complete install.

For CD Creator, I believe the program is Take-Two.

Depending on what mobo you got, a version of Ghost might be on the driver cd.
    On Epox board it is.

    My board is an ASUS-A7V133.
Talking about board.I tried to reinstall win98 second edition after my hard drive has been infected by some virus.I did not succeed.Window kept asking for the original version. When i put in the upgrade,it asked for the original one.Is there a way to trick it and make it accept the second edition?

Wait... sorry... I've always wondered what was on those restore CDs cuz I've never bought a OEM system. So all they are are images of a clean install? Including the restore CDs that Alienware and other gaming companies make?

NickP: this is a little off topic but in response to your inquiry, I believe in order to achieve your objective you need to rename win.com in your windows directory to something such as win.bak before you do your software install.

    Go to
    http://www.gamepc.com/article/print_...ticle=winsetup
for a very cclear guide on how to do this.

And no, ghost will not suffice for this purpose...

Also MaximumPC ran a similar guide in June00, pg 38. They used DriveImage3.0 and EasyCD Creator.

p.s.- why does it truncate the visible url???? Hope the link works...
