I can get it to boot and surf the internet but when I start up Counter Strike it freezes and I have to Ctrl Alt Delete get her going again. Does this sound like a Heat issue??

What multiplier and freq. setting are you using?
You might be able to change them up a little bit to stabilize it. Also you might be overwhelming the video card.I don't now the particulars but others here might be able to address that one for you.

The system is a Compaq 5340:

AMD K6 III+ 450 W lg fan and heat sink

TNT 2 64M w/32 MBs (pci this board has integrated video).

    3Com home ethernet

    Win 98

    256 Megs of Crucial PC133

I took the PC out of the case and I played CS for 6 hours last night w/o problems! Heat it is then need better ventilation!!

did you benchmark the system or just looking at what the BIOS is showing?

And anyone know where I can get that CPU?

The motherboard, I think is a proprietary board that is made for Compaq. Here is some info on the MOBO>>

    http://www.compaq.com/athome/support.../ty10jmpr.html

    5.5 x 124 = 682

I bought this chip off of Ebay from Picnic PC.

Of course, you're pushing the upper limits, especially at 124FSB. Have you cooled the Northbridge chip? You didn't reply on voltage, but assume you've been to max of 2.2v? Personally, I don't think it's worth it if you have to disable L3.

Man, you need to be PROUD!

This is a REAL ACCOMPLISHMENT, esp on such a piece of proprietary bloatware/hardware as compUqe!

Your success clocking it is the very rare exception, I would like to know how ya pulled it off- or did big Orange change their wayward ways the last year or two??

682 Mhz out of a K6-3+? You should run some benchmarks--that is one hell of an accomplishment.

I have had this chip around 6 months now. It has been running at 577 mhz (5.5 x 105) for all of this time. So it is well burnt in. I am currently using 2.1 Volts. I will probably drop it back down to 577 in the near future. I knew that it was a special chip when I burnt it in using Seti@home.

I can only say wow.....i would love to see some screen shots and benchmarks as well. What type of cooling are you using, One of those **** refreg cases with the compressor at the bottom.....lol

For a K6III+ running at 682, it would definitely run unstable.

But congratulations for at least posting your CPU this high.
