2 x 1.4 you will crack more and always have spare parts if 1 dies later on [let alone being able to test individual components]

But think of 2X2X1.2 Twin duallies! A matched set! 4.8 GIGs of pure CRUNCH

if you have a roomate, i would get all the computers you could get, and get a bunch of friends together, play some games. while your not using the extra ones, i believe you mentioned 'crunching'. is that like rc5 cracking or something? while those extra systems are not in use, you can use then for that. i'd go with the 2 1.4's

Although the Dulie would be GREAT for bragging, unless your gonna run some major programs, I'd go with the two systems.
I had to make this choice myself, with the exception of getting two machines
I just went and got a 1.4 'C' and am very happy with it!
Two systems will give you more things to 'play' and 'test' with though.
besides, two machines do give you more play time, and LAN games are really fun!
Nothing like killing your friends for fun.
I went with the single system for now, but In July of 2002, I'm getting a DULIE, for my server. By that time, price will be good, and I will be able to afford it

Oh great, by the time you decide on a motherboard now, you'll be doubting your 1 vs. 2 computer decision again. or perhaps you'll want a faster CPU
good luck and i agree with the 2 computer decision.

Have you looked at the Tiger MP board? It is much cheaper than it's big brother and a little more expensive than the KG7 raid (about $50 more). Unless you need two computers or just want to spend twice the amount -$50 + 2nd monitor + all the cards +other stuff, I would go with this board.

Looks like you've made your decision, but my personal view is that I can only physically USE one computer at a time, so why go nuts building two of them? I've got loads of extra PC's, but only one I devote any real time or energy to:
Here's my baby (due in the next couple of weeks):
dual AMD Athlon MP 1800+ (1533Mhz)
2 x Thermo Engine Heat Pipe
1gig DDR RAM - 4 x 256Mb Micron ECC PC2100 DDR
Tyan Tiger MP Dual Athlon
3-COM 3C905-C-TX 10/100 TX PCI NIC
Chaintech AJR-100r ATA-100 - HPT370 RAID Controller
4 x 61.5Gb IBM Deskstar 60GXP ATA-100 (2MB Cache 7200rpm) (RAID 0+1)
Lian Li PC-68 Aluminum Midi Case
550W Enermax EG651P-VE Whisper Quiet Dual Fan PSU
1.44Mb Floppy Disk Drive Panasonic
Pioneer DVD ROM Slot x16
Plextor Plexwriter 12/10/32A CDRW
32Mb Matrox G550 DDR Dual Head
45cm ROUND ATA100 Cable
Diamond PCI Pro Hardware V90 Internal V/Fax/Modem
Abit AU10-R 6Ch Sound with DTS
Microsoft Intellieye Optical XE Mouse USB/PS/2
Logitech Cordless Desktop Keyboard (Freedom)
2 x IBM 18.2" TFT Screens
I've got some of the bits already, but waiting for the new MP's to become more readilly available here
Now AFTER that you have a few other PC's ticking along for the rest... should add to my RC5 scores nicely:
LostBok's RC5 score
But then I've always liked the duallies for their smoothness - of course you only get that under winNT/2000/XP, not win9x/ME...
Only reason for going for two separate PC's is so that a 2nd person can play LAN games against you... but I've got a few old boxes with Voodoo2-SLI's that handle that fine
Laters,
LostBok
