Finnish city plans switch from Windows to Linux

I imagine many small towns/cities will eventually go this way

Mexico City has also begun a transition to Linux, in their public school system alone they have reportedly saved several million dollars -and what's more the students will likely learn programming and become more adept at computing in general as a result.

BART (Bay Area Rail Transit?) in San Franscisco also has a rail monitoring system that uses Linux.

The ISP I use, www.dslextreme.com uses servers from VA Linux -running.... Linux of course

    And the list goes on....

For a more complete list of Linux related happenings check out the news at www.linux.org -you can find the points I mentioned somewhere in the the last 6 months of news archives.

The news at Linux.org also gives links to relative Microsoft news as it relates to Linux and open source software. If you have any questions as to Microsoft's intentions following a few of these links should answer them quite clearly.
