I'd go with something like a viewsonic. They have nice moniters for the price your looking at! Check out pricewatch for some good deals. Shipping might be kinda expensive though so you might head down to your local Best Buy and pick one up. They should have Viewsonics to.

so one guy on this board uses a monitor ?? come on guys i would like to have a wide array of choices here!!

i'd strongly suggest a 17" KDS Avitron monitor. It was rated the best monitor of the year in 2000(or maybe 99 .... i dont remember xactly) by PC World.
I've been using the KDS 17" for almost 2 years now. I've had NO problems at all. It's still as good as new (even after heavy use).
It goes for less than $250

Samsung Syncmaster 753df. Samsung has always made very good monitors with good warrantys.

CRX_SOON: you will find that when you and your computer become one that you will no longer need a monitor, keyboard, or mouse................
Seriously, I went by BESTBUY friday and checked out the Samsung 753df. It's a nice monitor. Also check out the Viewsonic, which is what I use.

The Samsung 753. Its the best deal for your money.

I have 3 17" monitors, optiquest Q71, NEC multisync75 and Acerview. I am pretty satisfied with the optiquest and NEC but the Acer one developed problems right after the warranty expires.
I was told by the technician that Samsung is good if they are using a Japanese tube. I heard horrifying stories about sony.

The SyncMaster 753 Dyna Flat series from Samsung has one of the lowest horizontal dot pitch among 17" flat monitors, at .20 mm. So you get better images with this specification.
Its really a great value for your money. I never regretted purchasing it over the Viewsonic E70F.
