Anyone here with a 19 inch monitor running 1600x1200?
I have a Viewsonic 19 inch PF790 with a Voodoo5 5500. When I crank up the resolution to 1600x1200 it becomes blurry the text and strains the hell outta my brain and eyes. Does anyone else who runs a 19 inch at the resolution have this problem?

Yeah, I run my KDS 19" flatscreen monitor at 1600 X 1200 @ 85Hz. This fuzzy output could also be due to your video card. What video card are you using with this monitor? I'm using a Geforce 2 GTS 64MB. Also try adjusting the Refresh rate and Moire settings.

I am using a Voodoo 5 5500. My refresh rate is at 75 hrtz at that setting. Please help I want to run 1600x1200 without going blind

Would adjusting the brightness have anything to do with it?

Try bumpping the refresh rate to 85Hz if possible. Also, verify that you have the lastest drivers for both your video card and monitor.
I use 1600x1200 for most of my gaming (GeForce-2 GTS) and desktop work (Matrox G450 eTV) with a mid-range Proview 19-inch CRT.

Whoa, careful there, before you try bumping it up to 85, make sure your monitor is capable of handling that refresh rate at that resolution, otherwise you could damage it.

I have a PF790 on a Elsa Gladiac Ultra at 1600x1200@72Hz and the text is very sharp. Might the voodoo be the problem?

Yeah that is what I am thinking that the Voodoo might be the problem. But I always thought Voodoo's always had good 2d quality. Oh well time to switch back to 1280x1024

Might be the VooDoo5, not exactly famed for crisp picture quality, it might be the cable (BNC or ?D-sub?) or might even be the low refresh rate (For 1600x1200, I run my 21" EIZO at 93Hz in BeOS and 85Hz in win2000 - Hercules 3D Propher II Ultra).
If the screen is designed to do that res and refresh, then its the card or the cable, most likely... try borrowing a Matrox card for a bit (even a MilleniumII or G200 should do SOLID 1600x1200) or a BNC cable (if your screen supports it). You can try bumping the refresh if your screen supports it, that shouldn't affect crispness... but I find anything below 85Hz really strains my eyes on bigger screens, whether crisp or blurry.
Just some ideas....

Well my monitor does a maximum of 77 hrtz ath 1600x1200. I have a regular monitor cable. Not the BNC. I hope to replace my V5 soon. Maybe that will clear it up.

Geez - you youngsters sure got good vision. Us 30+ people run a PS790 at 1280X1024 and can barely see that! BTW - I have run both the D-sub and the BNC - no noticable difference. That's with a Voodoo3 3000 or a GeForce2 GTS Pro. Where's my bifocals!
In all seriousness, most people really need a 21" to run 1600X1200.

i have the following monitors
CompUSA 19" (old model) running at 1920x1200@70hz
ViewSonic a90 19" running at 1920x1200@70hz.
Yes they are running in dual monitor

I have the exact same setup as you: voodoo5 5500 and viewsonic pf790. I run it at 1600*1200 all the time at 70hz and have absolutely no problems. Image is sharp and crisp. You might want to try the focus setting on the monitor to see if it makes yours more sharp. ITS NOT THE VIDEO CARD.

One thing most people overlook is changing the Hz that their monitor displays at. at 1600x1200 and 72Hz, my monitor is fuzzy. but at 92 Hz, it is clear as a bell

Yeah, for 2D, nothing is going to show a better image than a Voodoo 5. Maybe a Matrox card, but that's about it.
