    Is hyperthreading the latest trend?

In an article in Sharkyextreme, they review the new Intel P4 3.06 ghz with hyperthreading technology. Although marginally faster than the 2.8 ghz p4 in some tests, it almost doubles it's performance in floating point calculations per second. Will the clawhammer for AMD have hyperthreading? If not, then will hypertransport be similar or is that a completely different thing?

    Inquiring minds want to know.

Hyperthreading essentially enables one CPU to run multiple threads - strings of bits, if you will - in parallel, effectively making it capable of performing nearly as well as two processors.

Where HT seems to really shine in is multitasking; the CPU is capable of running apps independently instead of in sequence, and it shows.

HyperTransport is a bus protocol that allows extremely fast access to the memory and cardbusses. The alpha EV6 bus has a lot more bandwidth than was previously realized, and HyperTransport allows this bandwidth to "spill" into the peripheral busses. The result - PCI-X like performance and beyond at a lower price.

    Don't both nforces use hypertransport?
This is where my signature would go if I wasn't so lazy.

So far, AMD has not listed Clawhammer as being hyperthreading-enabled, but it will have hypertransport.

One engineer at intel said that "every day AMD doesn't have hyperthreading we are that much more relaxed."

It's a form of it, albeit limited in this case to the memory bus -- which can be quad-pumped -- to unleash the power of EV6.

Don't worry people like you or me will keep it allive Opk...

More like HP... with their hands in the game, AMD has a chance.
