    Question Printer Problem

It's been a long time since I posted, but now I've come up with a problem and need your expert help. It's about my printer.

I'm using an Epson Artisan 837. I've had it for a number of years, and generally enjoy it. It serves my needs. Suddenly it has developed an ink problem. It's dumping light magenta ink as it prints. Most times when I print something the page will have splotches of light magenta ink scattered randomly over the page. This is not only unacceptable on a finished product, but also wastes a great deal of ink.

I have two questions. Why is my printer doing this, and how can I fix it?

I'll do my best to answer any questions you may have. I appreciate any help you may offer.

Replacing the cartridge would be my next suggestion.

How old is the cartridge and is it a Name Brand versions?

Thank you sir. The cartridge in question, light magenta, is a month old, at most. As I say, it is dumping ink. I don't recall ever using Epson brand name ink in this printer.

During the head cleaning process the printer announced that it did not recognize the light magenta cartridge, printer speak for out of ink. That would be a whole cartridge in a month. I'll find and insert another cartridge in order to complete the process.

A quick trip to the ink store, and I've inserted a(nother) new cartridge. I've run the cleaning process and printed one page. It came out clean, though the black was a bit faint on some lines, though not all. I think/hope that the problem has been fixed. Time will tell.

I thank you for your help.

    Great...

I switched from color inkjets to B&W LASER Printers under $50.00 a long time ago. If and when I need some fancy I go to my favorite Fed Ex store and use their high end equiptment.

The news is not good. I needed to print this morning, and ended up with multiple red splotches. The problem persists. It's bad enough that the new light magenta cartridge needs to be replaced again, after only three days, maybe 8 pages of print. I've done upward to half a dozen head cleanings, and the splotches are still there.

What would my next step be?

i like those where the whole head must be removed maybe those which due to this do not allow third party ink.
there are enough barriers built up by the inkjetprinter-companies to avoid using cheap cartriges. have learned my lesson over 25 years ago and since then only laserprinter now multifunctional brother. seller told me its the best from all the companies. but fax-functions old software interferring with core protection!! its was only with my fathers multifunctional inkjet printers where i had to study the problems to help him. waste of lifetime. but he needed colorprinter. computer and skype etc. a very important tool for an old greatgrandfather above all since he was machine engineer. and specialist for cooling and energy-recovery-techniques.

    FWIW:

Epson's Laser Printers Are Not Long For This World, Here's Why - (November 28, 2022)
...Epson has announced that it will ceasing global sales and distribution of laser printer hardware by 2026. The reason? The company wants to be more environmentally sustainable. According to the company, inkjet has greater potential to be more responsible to the environment than laser printers.

The problem is on hold for the time being. I bought an inexpensive used printer, an Epson WF-3620. It seems to work well. Everything I've tried works. The drivers and such took forever downloading on my old desktop. Its noticeably faster printing, and the font seems more crisp and well defined.

epson the world leader of lasting color exiting cheap printing.. makes no sense.
NB: have here old canon printer print. terribly faded.
dont expect lasting colors from old inkjet printers.
as alternative to polaroid cycolor invented a new process. all prints faded colors. there was a cheap/ slow and a speed-printer for labs.
Mitsubishi has a really fantastic printer where medium is not only cheap but had UV-protection. its a universal and panorama-printer. not cheap but affordable. for photographer who need quality and want to make money.
Epson must save money. their argument isnt really true. there was oki making also panoramic printer for cheap quick prints. panoramaexperts denied good lasting quality. one could also uv-coating which is timeconsuming. means image should be printed in smaller HQ or wideformat epson printers. these are the standards. i am using brother multifunction B+W printer how. MFC L2719DW not newest- seller telling its beating the others.
Had to change since old HP with ugly windows 10 or win7 limits.
I wasted too much time with my fathers multifunctional scanners. the brands are setting up unneeded barriers to avoid using third party ink. its a chapter which is discussed in printer-forums. my father used these.
