    USB-Stick USB 3.0 eFat or NTFS-formatting? Win10s/7 and Winxp-use (wxp-SSE-processor)

Train gave me instructions how to prepare usb-stick usb 2.0 which was filled on winxp-pc and win7-hdd-same pc(most probably) and not running normally on Win7-i7-pc. always wanted to clean. but i could work with data. not asked formatting. despite the preperations it does not work perfectly. see above.

    2. Now i have a USB-3.0-version filled on win10s/edge. on very old winxp-pc(SSE) it wasnt the stick to be formatted with data on it.

Since i need the stick maybe today at copycenter its now formatting with NTFS (not quick) .
    Should i have formatted eFat?
Win7-update-file on the usb 3.0-stick was very large more than 2GB. Thanks a lot

I didnt format new stick. Was this the problem? was it eFat-proformatted? it was showing eFat when it asked on winxp-sse-pc.

What is the problem exactly? The flash drive would have come formatted already. You didn't say the make/model of the flash drive, so we wouldn't know if it came formatted with FAT32 or exFAT. WinXP needs a patch to support exFAT.

    1. Platinum usb 3.0. already formatted. didnt format. it showed eFat when it wanted to be formatted in Winxp. already filled from Win10s/edge pc.

    2. Surprise: I formatted NTFS then and went to copy-station. photocopies to be save as pdf. machine didnt accept. Lady had to copy from her stick.

Whats next if i want to exchange data from Win10 to Winxp and viceversa? do i need two different sticks differently formatted?

NB: Here is late Trains advice how to threat USB 2.0 stick if using it first on winxp then going to win7:
Use Gpart to remove all paartitions. How and why it had 6???(dont remember this)
Format it to NTFS, long format, then remove the partition and reformat to Fat 32.
    -------------------------
No i will not use usb 2.0 sticks anymore or could/should i? Thanks

So formatting Fat32 the usb-3.0-stick 64gb seems to be the right choice.. maybe it was formatted eFat. could check by buying another one.

NB: formatting on slow full netbook acer spin 111(4/64)took quite a lot of time. would be better to have a smaller 32gb or even 16gb-stick usb 3.0.
must empty by going to onedrive.

I've never heard of Platinum brand before. Are you sure it says eFAT? It should be exFAT, not eFAT.

XP does NOT natively support exFAT. You'd need to install a patch for exFAT.
    http://blog.tatedavies.com/2013/02/2...in-windows-xp/

I'm guessing that the photocopier you used does not support exFAT. FAT32 is the most compatible, but the max file size is around 4GB.

Formatting should not have taken very long. Make sure to check "Quick Format".

Platinum is an OEM of Edeka/Marktkauf-Discounter Germany.
Winxp can show what it wants when it wants to format. i didnt verify stick.
it wanted to be formatted exFat.
since i dont have larger than 4gb i will now format fat32 on winxp and verify what will happen in winxp after loading data on win10s/edge-pc.

I will now format eXFAT and check before unstalling eXFAT-patch.
I see there is no Fat32-format-option. will this be enabled after patch-installation?
or using sandisk-formatter? there is a sd-formatter 4.0. hope its correctly named.

I see there is no Fat32-format-option.
It depends on the size of the flash drive. If the drive is larger than 32GB, you'd need to use a third party app like Rufus.
    https://rufus.ie/

You can also make bootable flash drives with Rufus.

slowly i understand now what to do.
    1. before patching no formatting of 64gb -drive at all in winxp
    2. After only eXFAT possible. Can you pls rectify my title: eXFAT is right
    3. will now install Rufus
    4. Will not use 64gb anymore. was cheap.... and i hate caps.

btw: had a data-crash with micro SD-card in SD-adapter. cheap noname. dont know how this could happen. only did not backup before... since it cannot be seen i must use testdisk and photorec. have experience with overlapping partions and corrupt external drive. videos seem to have little chance to be saved.
had the similar dataaccess-problem with phablet. thats a different more complicated story discussed in android-forums.

strange enough. a second different 64gb-stick had been formatted fat 32 as default. no problems on winxp. but the platinum made problems. didnt format at the beginning. loaded data on win10s wasnt accepted on winxp. after that i formatted ntfs in win10s see above.
could it be that it had been formatted eXFAT? we will know when i will buy another one, maybe this time 32gb .

    32 GB-Stick is Fat 32-formatted

    USB-Stick 32 gb Platinum is Fat32 -formatted.
Must check new 64 gb version. What format do you think is it?
If also fat 32 and not accessible to winxp then i must format Fat32 on winxp first-with the mentioned tool and only then pickup data from win10s or win7-system, right?
NB:I overlocked they had-for the same prices-slider-sticks without cap, the latter which i hate.
Btw: The platinum is very solid built. withstood shock onto isolated ground when netbook went down from bed from 45cm. cheap samsung stick was bent and plastic cover destroyed and i had to glue in contact-part and sharp edges now. will replace.

XP can use FAT32. FAT32 has file size limitations, but it is the most compatible. For drives larger than 32GB, exFAT is more efficient.
