    To be clear, use Internet Exploder complete this process. Chrome and Firefox may not work. Don’t give up if you get any errors. I have seen a few initial failures that worked later.

    While you can create the media, I recommend using the “Upgrade Now” button. If you like, you can create the DVD or ISO for later

    Upgrade means e.g. windows 7 must be given up. or can i upgrade from a backup-drive?

    Windows 7 must be given up. You can't "Upgrade" and continue using the older system.
