Partition-Recovery not working anymore-Trueimage
After formatting the systempartition of a winxp-system with trueimage software and recovery of an old backup i cannot boot anymore. system hangs.
it seems the is a mbr-problem. the original script-problem was in firefox, new installation did not help.
wd-data... software corrected reading error. thats first formatting the systempartition 34gb. there i saw i could have deleted also partition table but i feared to do that.
after first and unsuccesful recovery trial i did delete partition an formatting. recovery from two locations did not help. i could try with newest one but i need instructions how to prepare that partition beforehand. yes i have a brandnew hhd(2 tb) but want to give the old 500gb a last chance. Thanks for quick reply.

actually partition manager is working. had deleted and ntsf-formatted again systempartition. in the meantime last partition was set active. when trying to convert back to logical it said not enough space. so now there is a slow resizing-process going on.
What should i do more after that to prepare systempartition(still 34gb) for the recovery. I will then use newest backup. Thank you very much

Solution: I gave up that 500gb-drive. Windows-system is recovered only booting is not working. I could not convert the last primary partition to logical. not enough space. that should have no effect on booting or yes? I will leave it alone and use it only as data-drive.
I switched to WD20EURX- WD AV-windows xp is already installed. Damned is that quick. Quick booting.
Nothing further installed. 70gb-systenpartition used
Should i leave pagefile alone-not setting min./max. and observe.
I will only install programs, own data will be transfered to a second partition.

Yees see what happens with the page file. Probably it will make no difference how it is set.

on my 4GB memory-system it was set 2048/something around 4000 for max. system asked to to 4222. have now set 4222/4222. Should i set back to old setting or wait until there are problems. which defragger should i use? had smartdefrag. cannot say it was bad.

The reason for all these problems is found. At were almost 40000-favorites-duplicates which blocked FF. this FF-addon solved that:

There was not merge-function earlier. i always knew the problem but left alone the duplicates.
bw: this and a seperate addon(not working at all) which should remove duplicates are not working properly. i had to delete manually. the bookmarks-structure prevented that.

one german friend in camp-firefox has further developped the given up checkplaces-addon. see first more at febe-forum where details about the duplicates-and firefox-problems are with links to camp-firefox. but i suspect its for german firefox only(maybe) see the answer of boersenfeger

Now only a boot.ini-warning is popping up at boot-up. have opened a new thread about that problem plus solution(not yet executed)
-
Are you actually looking for any solutions, or do you just consider the SysOpt Forums to be your personal blog?

No, since the boot.ini problem is related to this theme i had to add it. If one could edit then i would not open new threads. But this would complicate reading. in camp-firefox it is asked.
