Question Upgrade options for Asus P6T Deluxe V2 Motherboard that was built in late 2009?

I built my current system back in late 2009 with a Asus P6T Deluxe V2 mobo, the new Core i7 cpu, among other components. My question is, given this was (or is it still ??) a good mobo, what kind of upgrade options and increase in performance can I expect? According to Asus's website for this board, I can still put in the newer Core i7 cpu's for the LGA 1366 sockets. And, the mobo appears to support DDR3 so I could put in 16GB of RAM.

How do I determine where my current Core i7 cpu falls in terms of performance compared to other Core i7 cpus? I'm not sure how to do this. I can only assume a i7 from 2009 will be much slower than a medium level current gen i7 from today correct?

My hope when I built this system, was to be able to upgrade the RAM and CPU a few years later without having to buy all new components. Is it too late, or can I expect a decent performance bump from a newer i7 and new DDR3 RAM?

I'm already running a WD Raptor HDD so it is fairly speedy and I have 2ea 2TB HDDs in it for storage.

    Any help is appreciated.

Just looked up my exact order from Newegg back in Oct 2009 ... so I could share what I ordered:

    Intel Core i7-920 Bloomfield 2.66GHz LGA 1366 130W Quad-Core Processor BX80601920
    CORSAIR XMS3 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model TR3X6G1600C8 G

Not too shabby. But, I guess what is holding me back is the the LGA1366 socket is so outdated now ... since then we have moved to 1155 and 2011. So, the fastest i7 for my 1366 isn't near as fast as a middle-of-the-road i7 for a 2011. Is that correct??

Wow, okay, in looking at this benchmark chart cpu benchmarksl, it isn't worth the $$ to upgrade my current i7-920 to a i7-960 for $400 (amazon.com) and only gain from 5.010 to a 5.976. I had no idea that my current 5yr old processor was still half-way decent. So, it may be cheaper to buy a socket 2011 motherboard and a newer gen processor for real gains. Thoughts?
