Risen From The Dead - Quite a Number of Times!

I have a rather odd problem with a Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop which has become almost obsessional.
It came to me completely dead. The charging unit lead at the computer end had been very roughly repaired, so I thought "Someone has ripped this out by the lead".
So I replaced the charger board (which on the 1545 is a mini board with the charger socket, RJ45 and 2x USB sockets).
This requires taking the machine apart totally.
Put it back together and it worked, so switched it off.
Next morning, back to square one.
Took it apart again, replaced the power switch board (this is glued into the 1545 lower case, so replaced entire lower case (S/H) with switch in situ rather than risk damage by wrenching switch out).
Put it together and it worked.
    Guess what ...
Next morning back to square one.
Now call me old fashioned if you like, but I find it rather a bummer to disassemble and rebuild a laptop every time I want to leave it for 24 hours.
Has anyone come across this before?
I know it's likely to be a mobo fault, but I just thought I'd enquire just in case .....

    Thanks
    Jim.

    Good idea!
No I haven't. Will do ASAP. It'll be Monday pm (UK time) before I will have the chance.
Will let you know what happens.
    Thanks

    Hi Again, Train
    Nope.
Have had the board out again and there are no discrete components - no caps to go faulty!
.... but, of course, it now works again - for the moment!

Well, one thing you did was disconnect a lot of connections, and when you plugged them back in, the contacts were cleaned and now you seem to have a good connections and all is running well.
Seen that many a times, for me it was the VGA connection for the monitor that I had to do that to once a year.

Indeed - I'm hoping that's exactly what it was.
If you should hear an anguished wail breaking out to the east of you, you'll know it's packed in again.
But at the moment ... fingers crossed.

    Thanks for your help.

    Hi Again, Train
    Just an update.
The machine started to play dead again.
Then I thought, Dell use magnets to indicate when the lid's down.
I opened up the case (again). The magnetic sensor is on a sub board used to accept external cards.
I scrubbed the sensor with alcohol in case there was any dirt round about that might retain a residual magnetism,
then took the sub board off and cleaned the connecting plug (the more likely cause, I thought).
Anyway, the result is that it behaves properly now ... finally.

Thanks again for your help and support.
    Jim.
