After first steps to add an external usb-drive(not yet really finished) i attached again my flash-drive. suddenly it wants to be formatted. changing letter did not help to get access.

Chkdsk it and it should be OK. Someone did not use safely remove and that messes things up.

But those things do have a limited life time. Lost a few myself.

1. at least data are saved. 2gb only.
2. i switched to data-only usb-stick, everything ok.
will check it on my second drive then 2nd pc.

Drive seems broken or must be formatted.
i have instructions how to run chkntfs and chkdsk which i do not really understand.
yes i understand but i dont know how.
i must run it on a partitioned drive(winxp-pc).
I could make it run but it says not possible to run on a raw-drive. or similar.

Insert flash drive, in My Computer, R-click it, seiect properties, tools tab, error checking which is a form of chkdsk.
Now should you select Format in the first r-click, You can format ot with NTFS or Fat32

The problem is not that i dont know how to format. Its how to save my data.

The mentioned program is for photo, video music-data only.
I made a scan and started recovery. it stopped at 7%.
Is there a good free data-recovery-tool?

Here are some excellent freeware file recovery programs, many of our members have had a good deal of success with them:
PC Inspector
Restoration
TestDisk
Recuva
