    Audio-Data-Flashdrive wants to be formatted

    After first steps to add an external usb-drive(not yet really finished) i attached again my flash-drive. suddenly it wants to be formatted. changing letter did not help to get access.
    do i really have to format my WD my book essential? they say its ntfs-formatted.

    Chkdsk it and it should be OK. Someone did not use safely remove and that messes things up.

    But those things do have a limited life time. Lost a few myself.

    1. at least data are saved. 2gb only.
    2. i switched to data-only usb-stick, everything ok.

    will check it on my second drive then 2nd pc.

    Drive seems broken or must be formatted.

    i have instructions how to run chkntfs and chkdsk which i do not really understand.
    yes i understand but i dont know how.
    i must run it on a partitioned drive(winxp-pc).

    I could make it run but it says not possible to run on a raw-drive. or similar.

    Insert flash drive, in My Computer, R-click it, seiect properties, tools tab, error checking which is a form of chkdsk.

    Now should you select Format in the first r-click, You can format ot with NTFS or Fat32

    The problem is not that i dont know how to format. Its how to save my data.

    The mentioned program is for photo, video music-data only.

    I made a scan and started recovery. it stopped at 7%.

    Is there a good free data-recovery-tool?

    Restoration

    TestDisk

    Recuva
