    userinit.exe virus

Anyone know of a good way to replace the c:\Windows\System32\userinit.exe file? It appears to be infected with the Win32/Heur virus. WXP Home

AVG Free didn't work nor did Malwarebytes. IOBit Malware fighter is running now but I have no faith.

Did you try scanning from a rescue boot disc?

You should be able to replace it using the recovery console. Throw the XPH CD in the drive and boot into the RC.
D: (or whatever the CD drive is)
    CD I386
    EXPAND USERINIT.EX_ C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32

Cool. Now scan your system so that the userinit doesn't get reinfected.
