looking for site for speed test.
I recently bought a ASUS N53 router. I want to check the speed of my downloads. I bought this router because I wanted to stream some movies sometimes and or watch Youtube. But mostly to reduce any lag while playing MMO games. Any suggestions?
For speed test I use
What I get.
As for a better idea of how things are going, I down load something like SP3 for XP and time it. http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=24
My download speed was 2.60. And my overall grade was a D. How sad because I pay $30 a month for this DSL from AT&T. I will ask them if they can boost my signal or something ( at a higher cost I'm sure ). Tho I was expecting faster speeds with my ASUS N53 dual band wireless router.
By pass the router and see what you get.
You can try cat 5 through the router too.
That speed looks like you are wireless and it always slower. Why I use cat 5 with my laptop when downloading big files if I can.
AFAIK The fastest aDSL speed is slightly more than 7 Mbps.
To go faster you need either fiber or cable.
You can check your speed at ip-details .
It helps to know your internet connection speed.
You have to isolate the component.
1. Wireless connection is No way to measure any thing but LAN Wireless Speed.
I.e., use cable to measure ISP/Internet performance.
2. As UA549 said, max consumer DSL on copper is 7Mb/sec. (b=bit)
I.e., Download of 700KB/sec. (B=Byte).
3. make sure that the TCP/IP Stack is optimized to your type of connection.
You can use this to check and configure (For DSL choose PPPOE).
