ASUS netbook weird behavior (WinXP)
I have an ASUS netbook (1005HA) with 160 gb HD, divided into C and D drives.
On the C drive I have the original Windows XP Home that came with the machine.
On the D drive I installed XP pro and much other software, all of which worked fine for about two years.
Suddenly, when I boot it, the XP Pro gets into a loop, where it looks as if it tries to start Windows, but then returns to the OS choice (XP pro or XP home). I tried to boot from a CD (to use Hiren's disk) but it won't boot from it, even when I set the BIOS to have the CD drive as the first boot device.
I would hate to have to run Partitionmagic and lose all the software from the D drive (XP pro).
Why can't I boot from a CD drive? Have others seen this kind of behavior?
The C drive with its XP home works fine, as far as I can tell.
Thanks for your help--

There might be something wrong with the optical drive. Have you tried a different boot disc?

Can you boot from any other CD? Have you tried the XP Pro disk?

I installed XP-home on it, and it seems to work fine now, except that the Drag & Drop feature is lost-- the appropriate check box is checked, but for some reason that feature is dead.
