Anyone use Acronis? Quick question...
I have made backups of my OS partion from the boot disk and restored them successfully. I recently tried backing up my OS partition from within windows (which you can apparently do). I end up with a backup file about half the sizeof my os.
1. Is this normal?
2. Will the smaller file restore properly?
or do I have to backup the OS from the cd? I'D like to do the backup from within Win7 if possible because i have a pci usb 3.0 card for faster backups and it needs a driver to work properly.
thanks,
Brian

I looked on their web site and found this: In the Master Image Creator wizard, there is a compression option.
You should look to see if that is enabled.

Note that TI does NOT include the pagefile.

Did you compare the backup files you made or the actual installed OS space? By default, TI will compress the backup image.

The size of the partition is 60GB with about 20GB used.
This backup from Acronis boot disk is about 20GB
Backup using Acronis from within widows is about 11GB
Normal compression is enabled, but a 50% compression seems too good. I understand that the pagefile isn't copied, but I believe I have that disabled anyway.

That doesn't sound right, but you would need to check your compression settings.

I don't recommend disabling the pagefile completely.
