    DVD firmware

    Hi all, I have a DVD writer (NEC 1300a) which won't work with a lot of disks, and I've been told I need to update the firmware but I have no idea how to do it! I had a look on the web but it's very confusing! Could some kind person please help...

    Did you try looking on the NEC website?

    That's an old writer, so that could be the problem. It might just need to be replaced.

    hi, many thanks for your replies. It seems my dvd writer is not working so i'm wondering if i can make a copy to an external hard drive. i know its possible with dvd films but the disk i need to copy is software and i'm wondering if i'll be able to install the software from the backup on the external hard drive.....

    You can copy the disc as an iso, and then use a virtual drive app to mount the iso.

    thanks Midknyte. so if i use a free dvd rip software app to copy the dvd to my extrrnal hard drive and then use clone drive to mount it would it work?

    Yeah, that should work. That's if you need to have the disc in the drive, like for some games.

    Otherwise, you could just copy the files off the DVD into a folder and install from there.
