    Blank monitor at first boot

I just installed a new video card in my computer, it's a Sapphire Radeon HD 4650. After some struggling I managed to install the latest ATI Catalyst drivers. Now it's working fine EXCEPT when I boot up the monitor remains in power saving mode (with the power LED staying orange). I wait until disk activity ceases, then I push the power button and the computer shuts down. If I boot up right away the monitor turns to life. If I need to reboot it works fine too. But if I restart after, say 30 min., the Power Saving mode comes back again as described. I was using before the integrated graphics which worked without problems. My question: is it the graphic card defective or my system settings are to blame?
    My system:
    MB Biostar TA780G-MA2
    AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400 processor
    6 GB DDR2 memory
    Sapphire RADEON HD 4650 1GB DDR2 HDMI
    Windows XP64

    Thanks
    Atti.

Did you check the bios settings? Did you disable the onboard video? Did you set the PCIe to primary?

I am a little in dark about my BIOS settings. The only things that I found related are:
Internal Graphics Mode: set to Disable (availableisable, UMA, SIDEPORT)
    and:
Primary Video Controler: set to PCI-GFX0-GPP-IGFX (available in several combinations).

    Any suggestions?
    Thanks

Are you sure that's the right model number? I don't see it listed on Biostar's site. Closest is TA780G-M2+

Primary Video Controler: set to PCI-GFX0-GPP-IGFX (available in several combinations).
    That seems to be correct.

10-11 are the latest drivers. Did you try an older driver set also?

Yes, you are right, that's my MB.
I will try this evening the drivers from my MB CD, they worked without problems.

By the way, from my BIOS settings at Primary Video Controler, I imagine that PCI means the PCI Express slot, IGFX could be Integrated Graphics. What about GFX0 and GPP?

    GFX0 - discrete GPU in PCI-Express slot
    PCI -
discrete GPU in PCI slot (which is inherited from the old times)
The default option [GFX0-GPP-IGFX-PCI] is for you if you are going to use a discrete GPU.

    Thumbs up

I tried after uninstalling completely the Catalyst drivers and with an older Catalyst version (10.2), the computer acts the same way. I asked for help from the Sapphire support people and they said the card might be to blame. So I return the card for a replacement.

    Thanks for your assistance,
    Atti
