Can onlyCan only go to Https sites - only

Did a spyware scan of a computer that has plenty of horsepower. Pentium 4 2.8 with 2 gigs of ram, Windows XP. Got rid of some spyware and now I can only go to sites that start with https. Anything else is the "Page cannot be displayed" page.

Have reset IE8, removed and reinstalled ethernet and wireless card. Did a ipconfig repair, flushdns, registerdns, restarted.

Still only https sites will come on and Google's Beta page which is another https. Its https://www.google.com/

Can't go to google classic though.

Been googleing this on the Internet to find a fix. Computer otherwise runs fast except for this browser problem.

Any ideas? Winsockfix maybe???? Another reset of IE8? go to Https sites.

Using Avast antivirus, malwarebytes, superantispyware and have the firewall on.

I just had a client with the same issue yesterday. The problem was with the proxy settings.

I know about those checkmarks, Winsockfix did the job though.

I'm glad to hear the Winsockfix worked for you. That was the first thing I tried, but in my case it didn't work. The difference, I think, was that this particular client was employing a web filter.
In your case I would be scanning or checking the logs to see who altered the stack.
