Thumbs up Photos - Parts for my Upgrade.

Got everything in today and I will be putting it together tomorrow. Just replacing the MB, Ram, CPU and PSU, the HD is already in the system. My Burner and DVD are good and the Radeon 5850 is pretty new. It's been 3 years since my last build so it's time.

    Oh it was fun... LOL

    The hardware part was easy.

Installing Vista Ultimate 64 bit took forever with the Service PKS and updates was not fun...

All up and running great now.

Post back on how your system runs, I was thinking of my next build using the same mobo and cpu. I haven't built an Intel system since the celeron 400 came out. After that I went to an AMD 750. Overclocking and lower price is what had kept me on the AMD track.

    Nice and quite.

Very fast too when it has to be.

Scored 17,349 in 3DMark 06 at default settings on the CPU and Graphics card.

Well I ran 3DMark 06 on it just to see.

Score was 17,349 at default clocks.

Old system with same Graphics card scored 12,994 with the XFX 5850 overclocked.

    SM 2.0 Score
    6950
    5568

    SM 3.0 Score
    8729
    7533

    CPU Score
    4204
    2316

As you can see there was a big difference between the scores even though both CPU's were clocked at 2.67 GHz.

Ran 3DMark 05 scored 23,122 at default speed.

Old System scored 17,896 with the Radeon 5850 overclocked.

    CPU Score
    12922
    21156

The P35 Chipset and Core 2 Duo E6750 was bottlenecking the XFX 5850 very bad.

The New P55 Chipset and I5 750 really makes a difference.

    Ran 3DMark 03.

Interesting results to start off with because the 1st run I did with the XFX 5850 at default speed and it scored 67,072, the old system scored 66,068 overclocked so it seems that 3DMark 03 is more GPU dependant than 05 and 06. When OCed it beat the non OCed scores on most of the Game tests.

So I ran it again and OCed the XFX 5850 to 765/1125, same as on the old system. The Score went up to 69,704 so now we see the real difference here between the platforms.

66,068 to 69,704 old vers new.

Yep - Vista takes forever to install. Windows 7 is a little better, but still glacial. Gigabyte definitely has the better board these days, doesn't it? Asus used to be the brand, but they seem to have gotten lost in the netbook sauce.

I admire your consistency, Ank - SAS! You just can't stand generic storage, can you? LOL.

I think they do, my last few boards have been Gigabyte and they have been great.

I don't like standard grade HD's very much.
