WD Caviar Green drives use less power and support quieter, cooler-running desktop PCs and external storage devices.

any 1.5 TB drive will make great backup disks

specially now with the eSata connectors in most new motherboards

as Steve mentioned you can get the Green versions or the 5400 rpm ones for quieter drive and less heat

but it's a minor performance loss.

if you plan to use it as an USB drive, then 5400 rpm is more than enough

if you go for the regular Blue version or 7200 rpm you get much faster performance, but also more heat, only recomended if you plan to keep the drive installed inside the PC permanently

yes, these were really good tips.
I dont yet have a speedy pc, let alone, esata. I have seen that there are already sas-drives.
i was really using the actual allready full second backup drive as usb-drive but actually it is on the second sata-channel.

i will buy 640 now and see how much data i will produce(3dstereovideos eat a lot of space). i dont have full pro-cams. can copy data to a larger drive later and use that one as system-drive.

all listed drives seem to run at 7200rpm. must now check why the seller is listing the caviar blue as 16mb cache only on the print-out. it was not in stock. anyway i will buy the green. all have almost the same price. thanks
