About 10C to warm. Did you use the pad on the heatsink?
Did you remove the factory protective cover from the pad?
yeah normal iddle temp should be around 50ish Celsius

but when mine is at full power when playing 3D games and stuff it can rack up to around 80ish C (auto OC-ed on air of course), and the video card jumps to around 70ishC

funny thing is at room temp my video card runs around 60c

now every time i wash something and i need it to dry quickly, i just hang it behind my PC

try another GOOD power supply, i had a similar incident with the exact same motherboard (don't worry the mobo and cpu is fine)

as you found out a so-so build PSU doesn't provide the correct power in the right rail (channel) and that can mess up the safety protocols of the mobo

my customer had a 750w TT PSU, it was great for everything except for 3D gaming, once he hits some demanding 3D games the thing will shutdown or reboot.

so after changing the PSU to a OCZ 600w everything runs great 24/7 (which is the same PSU i use for my own PC)

the OCZ PSU have a higher quality standard than most other brands.

Do you suppose this could have killed my Ci7. If so why does it kill one computer and not the other?
