    Advice: this CPU upgrade ?

Been just looking around on NewEgg site for possible CPU upgrade, and after looking at benchies at Tom's HW, I figured this would do nicely for me.

Would this work in my system using my current memory and all. My Motherboard has multiple bus for CPU and ram, and can indeed handle this CPU. A nice upgrade from my current 5000+?

yeah.. Mine is rev. 2.0 I 'm sure it would work fine. The MB automatically adjusts the bus speeds to the CPU and or ram used I believe. I do have that link saved in my favorites already.

At this point this is just a short term dream, although a real one. I'm already feeling some limitatons with this CPU. Not in games so much, but in other ways, like cache etc.. The benchies and most other are quite a bit higher for that CPU i listed then what i have now, runs at low wattage, and more cache. I really don't do much mutitasking. My other MB , was limited to waht CPUs i could run and it only used DDR2 800. this one uses that plus 1066, and 1333 also. It lists AM2 plus AM2+ plus Phenom's , and also Athlon 2's along with X3 and X4 capable.
When i got this one i was thrilled just to have my current build up and running. it works great, minus my inquisitive need for faster or a bit more like most. I figure i could sell this one on craigs list maybe to cover some costs if needed, as i don't plan on a sec. build.

Yup, looked at the CPU support list, and it covers just about all the lastest AMD processors. Quite a list. The one i listed is on there for that revision model.

I was mainly curious at first about the ram> since i already read another user or two using that CPU with DDR800, I figure i'm good to go. later I could just add another two sticks of what have now and thats it.

I think you might want to look over this listing then.

The 965 is the top AMD now.

I wasn't referring to those i listed as the top one . It just handles most anything on up to quads. The one I chose was for price versus performance overall for me. Yeah.., the 960 is something heh?

Rabbit, I had a 435 Rana in my new PC build and it was pretty nice for the price. I upgraded from a 5600+ and the benches in PCMark Vantage were pretty spot on to toms hardware. I no longer have it in only because my build wasn't doing what I wanted it to, but part of that was my GPU as well. I needed a better CPU and GPU.

It ran pretty cool, about 27 deg celsius idle, 37 load I think, and OCed a decent amount (using a Zalman 9500A cooler).

Good timing on the response. Just of late over the past few days, I've grown increasingly dissapointed with my current CPU. So muchi n fact that i will get that upgrade for sure. Either the 435 or 440. The added core, plus alot more MHZ jump should do it for me. Also, i'm beginning to notice just how much the added cache adds as well.
Really frustrating playing this golf game I play. Its the Tiger Woods 2008, and on each change in a completed action, the changeover frame freezes for like 20+ secs, before responding to next thing. Also my bootup times are alot slower as well as everything else for that matter. Games play fine for the most part, with exception of load times , which are slower. I kow its not the memory. My other CPU had none of this..so? I figure $77.00 or $88.00 shipped free is a great deal for what ya get.
