Explorer.exe using a lot of CPU power

on my wifes computer i noticed it is starting to run a little slow, so i checked task manager and explorer.exe is using anywhere from 53% to about 100% of the cpu power. What would be causing this issue?

    WinTasks Process Library
    explorer - explorer.exe - Process Information

    Process File: explorer or explorer.exe
    Process Name: Microsoft Windows Explorer

Run a Free System Scan for explorer.exe Related Errors

    Description:
explorer.exe is the Windows Program Manager or Windows Explorer. It manages the Windows Graphical Shell including the Start menu, taskbar, desktop, and File Manager. By removing this process the graphical interface for Windows will disappear. This program is important for the stable and secure running of your computer and should not be terminated.

Note: explorer.exe is a process which is registered as a trojan. This Trojan allows attackers to access your computer from remote locations, stealing passwords, Internet banking and personal data. This process is a security risk and should be removed from your system.

Determining whether this process is a virus or a legitimate Windows process depends on the directory location it executes or runs from in WinTasks.

Try running a full system virus scan or what ever you use. then find out what the program is for and re-install it. if it continues to use up high cpu then contact microsoft (sucks cos of RROD, Blue Screan Of Death and the vast amount of programs it uses when your on the pc that u dont need running) and see what they can do to sort out the problem'o : )

    And that's all from a 13 year old (me) : )

I hate to burst your bubble kid, but this thread is over three years old.

Also, for future reference, explorer.exe is the Windows shell, which is simply put: your desktop and every feature that is part of it. If you had read what Baddog said in the thread you would have known that.

I won't tear you apart over this with sarcasm because I was there once. Ask anyone here. lol
