    XP Backup File Size

Is there a restriction on the file size for an XP backup when using a USB Cruzer drive? I do backups to a network drive with no issues and bought a 16 Gig Cruzer to have a second copy in an alternative location. Every time I try I get a message saying the backup tape is full. When I look it's always at 4 Gig. Is this a limitation of the Cruzer or a Windows thing?

    Thanks

Fat32 limit, which most thumb drivers are formated to.
Actually max file size in Fat 32 is 4 MB - 1 KB.

you'll have to reformat in NTFS. You can set the drive to "optimize for performance" mode in Device Manger or just download this utility:

would not " convert X: /fs:ntfs " with X being the USB key letter work? I think it would.

hmmm, that should work too. forgot about good ole DOS.

I think you still have to set the drive to "performance" mode in device manager, though.

Thanks guys, I reformatted as NTFS & it works now. I also changed it to "performance" mode just to be sure.

You can change it back now that it's NTFS. That's just one of the quirks. If you don't, NTFS doesn't show up as an option in when you try to format. If you use "Safely Remove Hardware" to take the flash drive out, you can leave it in perf mode.
