    XP Boots and Blue Screens

My Windows XP upon start up, goes through the screen with the windows logo and the loading bar. Right after that, it flashes a blue screen with text on it (for a microsecond) and reboots itself. It then goes to the menu with Safe startup, normal starup, etc. However, XP will not boot in any of these!

    Two questions:

    1. Can I reinstall XP without dumping my other files and folders, or do I need a reformat?

    2. Is there a way I can hook up my laptop's hardrive and use it as a slave drive on a desktop computer to extract my documents off of it?

    3. Any other ideas or similarities to this problem?

    Thank you so much!

Ps: I downloaded the ultimatebootdisc and tried to run Dosprompt in it. When I tried to switch from the boot drive to the C: drive to run chkdsk it responded with "C: not responding"

At that point it is trying to load drivers. Have you added anything new to your machine? If not, then start with a disk diagnostic and a memory check. If you have an install CD you might first try running chkdsk /r from the Recovery Console.

Yes, if it is a SATA drive, you can hook it up directly as long as you have the standard SATA cables. If it is an IDE drive, you need one of these adapters:
