Help choosing Motherboard & CPU
My ASUS A8N-E motherboard with AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800 has died!!!!
Time to purchase a new mobo, CPU and memory...
I would like to keep my two hard drives: 1 ide and 2 SATA. Also I would like to keep my EVGA TX Geforce 6800 Video card.
Use for word processing, xls, ppt, and some photography using photoshop CS4.
Like to spend between $300 and $400.
Need some suggestions on decent mobo and cpu.
What makes you think that your motherboard and cpu died. They don't just die, there is always some kind of warning.
Just trying to save you money you don't need to spend if you don't have to.
Here is a cheaper good quality one
and something that will beat the 3800 and not your pocketbook
You'll need DDR3 with that.
all for less than $300
But I think Imperion is correct. You might try cleaning any dust and reseating all components. I having had Dimms go bad in the same board you have would try one stick in different slots too.

At first we thought that the power supply died. Put another a working power supply and the computer didn't come on. I'm not sure that the CPU is bad, but no lights come on the motherboard.

A bad pci card or a bad video card can cause that same reaction.
Add ram to the list also.
What ever happened on this? Did you get it to work? Did you get a new MB/CPU?
