xp not releasing cache
I have been having a problem with programs not releasing cache files. Specifically, I use Photoshop, Photo Mechanic, and Capture NX. Photo Mechanic is used to organize and locate images. If I open an image in Phtotshop, save the changes and go back to Photo Mechanic and try to change the name of the folder that the image was from, I get the message that the file is being used by another program, so I can't make the name change until I close the program. The same thing happens sometimes when I use Nikon NX. This is really frustrating, because I will often rename folders while working with images. There must be a way to get XP to release the cache. I don't won't to use a separate program to do this.
(Pentium cor2 CPU, 2.4 GHz, 2GB Ram)
Any help is appreciated.

You can always reboot the pc
Plan ahead and change the name of the folder first.

To fix it, you will first have to determine which process is locking the file.

Pretty sure he knows exactly which app is locking the file

xp not releasing
Thanks for the responses! I do know that Photoshop has had a problrm with releasing files, and Adobe suggest rebuilding the preferences or profile, I don't remember which. But that didn't help. I am using RAW files sometimes, but not all the time. The real issue for me is; Why are the files not being released? I am guessing that this has something to do with the cache files. But there may be something else that I don't know about. It is probably a more difficult issue than I wanted it to be. I have tried a couple of the programs that are supposed to unlock files, but that was to release usb thumb drives. I am open to other suggestions.

Put the cache, in photoshop, on a separate hdd.
Should be in preferences. Until you do,
FastStone Image Viewer

Very, very seldom use Photoshop any more but use Image viewer I linked in.
