Can't install XP on SATA HDD

    Hello Everyone,

So I'm having an issue... I bought a USB to Floppy for the sole purpose to install XP when my PC doesn't have a floppy drive, and uses a SATA HDD.

So basically I have the RAID Driver via floppy, and while installing XP you can press "F6" to load additional drivers.

It does that fine, then after "Checking Drive C:/" it shows "Please inset VIA RAID COMBO DISKETTE"

I have the option to hit F3 or Enter to continue.

So I hit enter assuming its the same floppy in the USB to Floppy device. However, it doesn't even seem to detect that device. Any one have any idea??

I also tried to slipstream XP SP3 but it doesn't seem to work at all! Because I get the installation part and then is displays an error stating that there are no HDD's detected.

Alos another tidbit, in BIOS I have the boot sequence USB-FDD, CDROM, USB-FDD.
    Is that right?

Look in the BIOS for the option to set your drive in IDE Mode.

Or spend $4.99 and purcase a floppy drive.

Heh I spent.... $40.00 for this USB to Floppy...

And I took a Floppy from my old ancient machine, and it doesn't even seem to turn on.... like I'm so frustrated at this point I just wanna throw the PC off a 5 storey building.

In BIOS I have my IDE Configuration all items are enabled.

    Please advise.

What is the make/model of your motherboard?

That's not quite what Steve said to do. Most will have an option to set SATA to IDE mode, unless they are first gen SATA boards. In that case, you would need to use the F6 option or create an XP CD that has the drivers embedded in it (nlite).

I also tried to slipstream XP SP3 but it doesn't seem to work at all! Because I get the installation part and then is displays an error stating that there are no HDD's detected.
What are you trying to do there? You have to make the slipstreamed disc BEFORE you do an installation.

I'm assuming its first gen SATA, where I did embedd the RAID Drivers into the XP SP3 disc via nlite. But it somehow still doesn't work.

And yes I did slipstream the disc before the installation by creating it in nlite, and then from there I'm assuming you just insert the disc right? I don't need to press F6 at this point because it just should load the drivers?

Motherboard is MSI MS-7142 Ver 1.

Yeah, that's an old board. It wouldn't have the IDE compatibility mode yet.

If you slipsteamed with nlite properly, you wouldn't need to use F6.

I tried to follow this instruction also:
    http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windo...-installation/

Didn't seem to work, I got the error that's stated in the tutorial in blue.
I'll try the above link though.
