Unable to start Windows XP
I'm having a problem that started on my Windows XP computer a few days ago. The machine is unable to boot at all, and it was doing this for a week, but I was able to get in after several tries of hitting the power reset button. It now does nothing, but sounds off a long beep, followed by 2 short beeps. It keeps doing this over and over about every 30 seconds. Would using the 6 XP startup boot discs enable me to get in, or is there something else I need to do before I can look further into what is causing the problem?

No, the boot floppies wouldn't help. It sounds like there are hardware issues.
What are your system specs? First things I would try are checking for bad caps, reseating ram and swapping power supply.

Have a look at the following link for an explanation of the beep codes you're getting.

Thank God we're not getting all of the government we're paying for!

Mod w/ an attitude
Here is another good list of beep codes:

One long and two short beeps indicate a bad video card. Try installing a spare pci/AGP or are you using the onboard video?

1 Long, 2 Short Indicates a problem with the video card or the memory on it
Or you have bad ram.
My finding has been by pulling the ram and cleaning the contacts fixes things most of the time.
Next step is the run meme testors.
Some listed at http://www.sysopt.com/forum/showthre...hreadid=173743
If the memory test is good or you do not see the memtestors running.
Video card time.
