Endless reboot on AMD with SP3

I ran into this a few months back when a friend loaded SP3 on an HP machine with XP Home. I was able to research and find this to be a well documented issue. A registry change fixed it.

I purchased an ASUS - AMD combo and found the same problem but couldn't get into safe mode to fix it. Since it the installation wasn't complete, I just started over.

Just a word or warning to anyone who might be putting together a similar combination. I'm surprised MS hasn't fixed this on their Windows Update site yet. More people (myself) will continue to fall victim.

Why should they fix a service pack when support for the OS will be discontinued real soon?

The problem is with the Intel Processor driver (Intelppm.sys) , get the patch.

It shouldn't have been a problem with a slipstreamed SP3 disc. Are you doing a clean install or not?
