Iomega External Hard Drive not recognised

    Good Morning

I have a MS 6721 motherboard loaded with Win XP Pro & SP2.

System shows SIS 7001 Enhanced USB controller is installed and ok.

When I connect my Iomega External USB Hard Drive, it is not recognised.

Can anyone advise what could cause this, as the Iomega works fine on my other machine.

My Flash Stick works fine in the USB ports on the MS 6721.

    Any Ideas, solutions?

    Thanks

What is the make and model of the drive? If it's a 2.5" notebook drive, then motherboard is probably not providing enough power to the drive. Some models have a secondary USB plug for extra power.

    Iomega External Drive

The model of the Iomega is LPHD-UP - it does have two usb connectors and even plugging both in seems to make no difference!

    Thanks

When the drive is connected, does anything show up in device manager or disk management? It's possible that you have a drive letter conflict.

I ALWAYS set my cd/dvd drives to high letters like R: and S:

    Iomega

Nothing shows up at all, not even the USB emblem in the system tray.

I am beginning to think that it might be an IRQ problem as I not that the USB controllers are sharing IRQ's with the screen and modem.

    Could this cause the problem?

    Thanks

There has NOT and NEVER will be an IRQ problem ever again. Not since Win98 and the abortion called WinME.

You probably have multi phantom USB devices which can and do cause issues.

After you get this cleaned up, install WinXP SP3 if you can. You are probably so infected with viruses and spyware that it may not install.

    Ioemga External Drive

Well you sure set the record straight about IRQ problems.

As for viruses and spyware - not a chance - I have just reloaded the machine windows and was putting all the peripherals back.

Also ran a virus and spyware scan immediately after reload which picked up nothing.

Funny thing is that it worked before the reload.

It's not an IRQ sharing problem.

When you say nothing shows up, do you mean in device manager?

Did you look in event viewer for any errors?

Did you change the cd/dvd drive letters or not?
