How's this SATA PCI Adapter for BOOTING into WinXP?
My motherboard is an Asus A7N8X. It does not have any native SATA support so i must use a SATA PCI Adapter. My existing adapter (SY VIA-150 w/ the VIA 6421a chipset) works to recognize my 160GB WD 1600JS SATA drive but only as a secondary/slave drive. I want to have one single drive in my system as a primary and so want the 160GB SATA drive as my boot drive into Windows XP.
I've tried the F6 approach on a fresh install of XP but on reboot the SATA drive is still not recognized. I've tried shuffling the BIOS boot order to have SCSI as First, Second, or Third but still not recognized as a boot device.
I'm now considering the FastTrack TX2300 SATA PCI Adapter. It claims to have a BIOS on the card. Anyone know if this is the solution i need to be able to use my 160GB SATA HDD as a boot device into Windows XP?
Thanks.

The SY VIA-150 is not a bootable card. You'd need a card with a boot rom.
The TX2300 goes for $70 at newegg. It is a bootable card, but you could get an IDE hard drive for less than that.

I've used SATA ot IDE converters with good success to save $ a dozen times. Each booted fine , no raid , single and dual configurations and no complaints so far.
