gdiplus.dll
My second system is having a problem. It's an older system, running Win2000 Sp4.
On bootup, every time, I get a pop-up which says something to the effect, "gdiplus.dll could not be found in the specified path." It then goes on to list five separate paths. As far as I can tell, this affects only Winamp, playing videos, but not each and every time, or perhaps not each and every video.
I've downloaded gdiplus.dll from M$, and installed it in each of the five paths indicated. I still get the popup on bootup.
What part of this process am I missing? What did I do wrong?

Download msconfig and remove unnecessary items from startup.

Okay, I've downloaded msconfig (already had it on the primary system), but then things get a bit murky when I think about removing unnecessary things from startup. I don't really know what might be necessary and what is not. I imagine it depends what is installed on the computer, and how I want it configured.
I'll give a list of what all is in the startup section, and which I've disabled.
mobsync (disabled)
NvCpl
nwiz
NvMcTray
PRISMSVR
ADeck (disabled)
DiskWizardMonitor
Timounter Monitor
schedhlp
itouch (disabled)
mm_tray (disabled)
ashDisp
BackWeb-8876480
OrbTray (disabled)
Logitech Desktop Messenger (disabled)
MSOffice
USR Wireless USB Adapter
Winampa
The system boots better now, though it gives popups about it's being a selective startup. Also, if I try to start Winamp Remote it complains about a missing OrbTray.dll.
Should anything else be disabled? Or should I re-enable some which I've disabled?

Rather than using MSCONFIG, try WinPatrol:
www.winpatrol.com
If you want to investigate an item, just click Info and it will show you where it is. It won't nag you either.
Disable Backweb - it's the PC manufacturer's junk. Disable Winamp too. There is no reason for it to be running all the time. Before you disable it, reinstall it to repair and update it.

And there really is no need of having a program start until it is needed.
I use msconfig.
Here is how to check msconfig
Start/Run and type in
msconfig
OK
Startup Tab
Keep the page open then go to link below. It will tell you what all the entries are and whether you can disable them or not. It will also identify any malware. Disable everything which is not needed to run at start up
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/startups/
Read the Key at top of page. Use the Search box at the top to check all your entries
When you reboot you will get a message saying you have started in "Selective Startup" Click "Don`t show this message again" then OK

Winpatrol is much easier and clearer.
