    Vid card upgrade

I'm thinking of upgrading my vid card. I have a Nvidia 7600GT. Newegg has a HD3850 for $99 and free shipping(good deal). Would this card be overkill?
My system: Asus A8N-E, Opteron 145 oc'd to 2.4, 2 gb ram, Antec 450watt w/pci-e power connector, open case w/ lots of cooling fans.

Your Opt145 is around the speed of a FX-53 or so, right?

Since the 3850 is the highest AGP card they make, the PCIe model should do well on your system.

    Better card for slower system?

    My system : Asus A8N-E, Opteron 145 OC'd to 2.4, 2 gb ram, Geforce 7600 Gt,XP Pro,plenty of fans and open case.
I'd like to upgrade to a better vid card, but one that would go into my next system upgrade ( Intel Dual or Quad) next year.
The cards I've picked are: Radeon 3870,4830, or 4850. The 4850 seems like the best pick. What do you think?

If you plan to migrate your card to the new system, then of course the 4850 would be the best. You may not be getting all you can out of the 4850 on your current system, but it wouldn't hurt anything.

Thanks for ya'lls input. I've decided on the HD4850. It's going for $120 now and probably will drop under $100 in a momth or so. If the performance is good, I may wait on my system upgrade.
BTW- Will the 4850 play older DX8 games, like Tachyon or the Independence Wars series?

Yes. DX10 cards are backwards compatible to older versions of DX
