Is the Sony desktop connected to the Internet?

Does the desktop have a TV tuner?

    What OS?

If you go to Tools -> Internet Options -> Advanced, and uncheck "Show friendly HTTP error messages" you should get a more detailed message which will point you to the real problem.

That's Firefox in the screenshot. Internet Options won't affect it.

Your friend may want to try using Internet Explorer and the appropriate plugin.

Ahh... "I see", said the blind man. (I was working with a 12" screen.)
If Firefox, then try deleting your cookies.
