Socket A mobo - no dual channel.

What Crucial says about ram.

Xp installed, then 1 GB of ram is optimum.

1. yes, NF2 chipset can handle both single channel and dual channel configurations. You just have to follow the motherboards rules.
2. It has to do with chip density. See the section on chip density here .
I do agree that when unsure what memory to use, then use the advice of a good quality memory configuration. Crucial , Kingston, Corsair are among the best.

Also, most memory will work in "Dual Channel Mode" -- if memory is labelled "Dual Channel" it simply means it is certified to work in Dual Channel operation
90% of the time though any suitable RAM arranged in the the configuration(s) shown in the manual will result in Dual Channel operation.

From what I could gather with your advice tips and reading up through the links you provided me on memory, if I am using single channel in a setup...
just be sure to insert them in the motherboard as per guides in the manual.
Say on a board with 4 slots, then set up the memory modules as it directs...in slot 1-3 configuration and slot 2-4 configuration but don't set it up with 3 boards in 1-2-3 per say
correct?

Yep, populatiing an odd number of slots will disable dual channel.
Basically you cant run one pair in dual channel and the remaining stick in single -- they have to be all either single or dual.
As such, you need either two sticks, or four sticks (of equal size) to enable dual channel
