I recently got rid of Comcast, mostly because for the price they want a month I could buy a new full retail priced DVD twice a week, but I also could only get one TV in my apartment. I run a wireless network and I know I can remotely store files on a server and play them back(used to do it with windows) but that isn't exactly what I want to do.
My main TV will have the 'server' and dual HD tuners. A Core 2 Duo with a terabyte of storage on an HDTV.
The secondary tv i want to:
-Play DVD's locally(not totally necessary)
-Access library on the server
-Stream live tv from the server(dvr functionality?)
-Work by infrared remote control
-Not take a heavily configured system so it can be small and almost fanless
I want to use a mini-ITX board I have now but I feel it won't be enough as it's an 800mhz VIA C3 with 512mb of ram (i can go completely fanless if this works). I'll get a PCI card for it if that processor will be enough to just decode what I want. I plan on the secondary tv to boot from compact flash.
So far I'm thinking of running Linux on both systems with MythTV. I think it'll do everything I want. Correct me if I'm wrong.
Anybody else doing this?
