Changing from 8800GTS 640 to the New 8800GT 512 (G92), Is it worth it or not? I sold off one of my 8800GTS's and was going to get one of the 8800GT 512 (92) series, And maybe a 2nd one down the road but is it worth it? I was looking for some bench marks to compare the two.

LOL yeah i sure wish my finances were better. I just bought a new W.S. LCD, and had to get a new phone, tehn i got tagged for a serv. call from Comcast, and also my elect. bill is 1 1\2 payments amt. this month... now it looks as though that V.C. will be pushed back some more.. I also need a new computer case, although this one is still OK.
What i have to keep telling myself is all one has to do is go out and earn a bit more $$$. lol
No it isn't worth it. The 8800GT might be slightly faster but only a few FPS, not really wroth the investment. As the resolution climbs, and especially when you throw AA/AF and higher resoltuions, the advantage is gone due to the narrower memory bus (256bit vs 320bit)
No doubt. seesm every time i look at video card prices lately, they are coming down quite a bit.. here we go again. Sure thing this time. Looked up the specs. and Tom's Hardware charts, and this card is at the top tier.. and for these prices..?
Looks as though i will get one sooner then later. Gots to love Nvidia for thinking of people like me. ( and others of course ) LOL
They use less power, are slightly faster, and overclock better with a good aftermarket cooler. I'd say go for it, but whether it's worth it is personal preference. I'd say if you can sell the 640, it's worth it.
In my case , and knowing there are faster cards and alot of great choices now from Nvidia, this would fit my needs fine. In fact, it would be the highest end and fastest card per generation i would own to date.
Well I did get the 8800 GT (G92) and I tell you now this card is way way faster than my current, my benchmark on 3dmakr06 jumped 437 marks, it runs crysis so much better, I didnt think id notice a huge difference but I do, I got EVGA's and I will be doing the step up programming in a few months to get the 9800 for a mer 60 bucks.
