It was released recently to the public. Some of the new features include it's WebSlice feature that allows people to cut out content from their favorite pages and subscribe to it like a feed, then look back at that portion later from the task bar for updates. Another feature is the activities feature, which allows the user to take things text they find and use it in services such as map programs and blogs.
As already mentioned, it was released to the entire public, but it isn't anywhere near perfect. For me it renders webpages incorrectly when it tries to set them up, and is much slower (alot of lag) than the current Internet Explorer 7. Unless you plan to use it for developing purposes, or simply want to try the new features, it may be best to wait until the final version is released. Either way, it can be found here.
It is compatible with just about every variation of Windows from XP SP2 and up.
(Thought I should add...the screenshot was the page that displayed better than any other so far outside the runonce page...and right before I made this thread, lol.)

I will wait till it's more of a final release. Just getting used to IE7
which I have, but very rarely open. Prefer Firefox .. Opera is good
also, but I need to learn how to properly block ads in it. Can't seem
to get it to do what it should in that regard. As to IE8 I hope Microsoft
now allows users Full Customization of the Toolbars & positions without
the need for registry mods to allow it to do what it should do in the first place.
I'll probably try the next release. I keep a good backup.
Really, all I had to do to go back to IE7 was do a system restore. I don't play with betas unless I have a full backup and a restore point set. That would be asking for it.
After awhile a guy gets tired of formatting and learns to be careful.
Firefox 3 is still in Beta as well. Should be final build late this
year or so. I hope they get two things correct.
1): All the extensions that currently work with FF2 updated
before FF3 is an official release
2): I hope there is any easy way to bring my FF2 Bookmarks
into FF3 .. I think FF3 stores them somewhat unique compared
to FF2
But I would not mind seeing FF load both itself and certain web sites
faster. Right now, it can take 10-20 seconds just to open. Usually
pretty good afterwards.
Don't mean to turn this into a FF3 beta thread, but:
1) The compatibility of extensions is up to the developer, not Mozilla Firefox. You might need to go directly to the developer's site to get beta builds for FF3 (like for Tab Mix Plus).
2) You can import FF2 bookmarks. go to bookmarks - show all bookmarks - import. use the old bookmarks.html as the source file. FF3 stores bookmarks in places.sqlite
I know the extensions are up to the developers to fix.
But I would still wait till the bugs are out and they have
a chance to update the extensions, especially Ad Block Plus,
Google Toolbar, BBCode Extra, Forecast Fox & IE Tab
Those for me are the most useful.
That's why you use a VM instead of your production install. You can take a "preinstall" snapshot and then restore on the fly. Way easier than doing a system restore or restore from backup.
To go back to topic, IE8 is still in very early beta. The debugging code is still in there, so it's going to run slower than the finished product. If you have a problem or issue or just plain don't like a feature, report it to M$. That's the whole point, isn't it?
Im not all that impressed with IE 7. Thats just like MS to put out things that are buggy. That way we are teh pawns and they get to try and mess things up all over again and even get paid lots of moola for this. Welcome to America.
