Great tip. This thread is kinda old and needs updated input. Thanks!

To clarify, this technique is only to be used to transfer individual files from another system. Restoring the image from another PC would most likely be a disaster, but if the image was made on a system with a similar motherboard chipset (Intel vs. AMD), it just might fly. Worth a try if you have the time...

    It's called "Backup and Restore":

In German, it should be "Sichern und Wiederherstellen".

Updating to Windows 7 or from Windows 7 to a newer version of Windows?

Keep in mind that what you are asking has nothing to do with backing up Windows. Do you really want to take this thread away from what it really concerns?

Let me try to nip this in the bud. If you are going to upgrade Windows, you should be backing up your important data first anyway. So, if your data is backed up and you have to reinstall programs, you might as well just do a clean installation of Windows 10.

Now that we covered that, what you probably mean is Repair Install (repariere die Installation).

It is wise to ensure that any pre-built system from Dell and the like includes the hidden restore partition.

So always check with a partition app before imaging that there are no hidden partitions.
Depending on your computer model and the year it was purchased, one of two programs will be installed on your computer that lets you access perform these functions i.e DataSafe Local Backup 2.0 or PC Restore.

Provider pushing me to only support win7-which was then not the case.January 2018 I am actually still on old gigabyte ga-7n400 Pro2 but it has issues caused by the mentioned capacitor plague. asa asrock alive dual esata 2(winxp and win7 as independent systems)is reactivated i will replace the ga-MOBO and hope the copy doesnt have the mistakes. it seems slowly dying. second sata-slot seems dead cannot clone directly. also pci-slots all dead. all capacitors should be replaced. but dont have time and lust. life is too short.
