Great new freeware
I thought that I would celebrate post # 3000 by starting a new freeware thread, as it has been a while.
One that has really impressed me is a photo processing app called Photoscape. It stands head and shoulders above not only the rest of the freeware but most of the payware as well. It is full featured and replaces 3 or 4 other applications like viewers, editors and those print applications that come with your printer. If you are going to install a photo printer for your Aunt Nellie, install this as well; it is very easy to use and does it all. She will thank you for making it all a little easier for her.

Another noteworthy newcomer is PDF-XChange Viewer which is now installed on all of my machines that don't require Acrobat Pro. I like it better than the Foxit viewer/reader because I often have to copy text from PDFs. In fact, it is easier to capture text with PDFX than it is with the $50 Foxit Editor. It also does a great job of form filling.

If you work a lot with PDFs, you might also appreciate the PDF Image Extraction Wizard, which will extract all images from a PDF file and save them into the folder of your choice - very easy to use.

For deep geek photo editing, Paint.NET is unbelievable and free - as long as you have Win2K, XP or Vista and have all of your .NET updates:

awesome links....
Even though I have all the Adobe image and pdf software, still fall back on tried and true free image and website editors, and the pdf alternatives keep getting better all the time.
