I see where you're coming from regarding the drivers, although given some of the drivers I've gotten from nVidia on occasion , XFX couldn't be much worse. ATI's footprint is huge, though, compared to nVidia's. I'd even go with an AGP 7800 or 7900 before the 1950 myself. To each his own, I guess.
Thank God we're not getting all of the government we're paying for!

Why? His 4400+ is faster and has twice the L2 cache. I have both myself in other computers, the 4400 is superior. I gave the 3800 computer to my dad, he doesn't need the extra oomph.

i'm running an opty 185 on water & it does 3.2 ghz without exceeding 35 degC, but even my next upgrade will be to a core 2 duo so it may be time to bite the bullet

Yep, I am moving on from 939 when I build again. There is really no better 939 than what I am running. Some may say the FX-60 is better. I really think they are about the same with the FX-60 having an unlocked multi.

I'll take a look at tax time. If I can swing it, I'll build. If not, I am fine for now anyway.

I'sgot a X2 3800 right here for ya.. with motherboard to boot, that supports both AGP and PCIE. LOL The X2 3800 is a heckava upgrade from the 3500. Cost is about $59.00 and that is wayyy cheap for what you get. The 4400 is a bit better..., and your right, its worth the extra $20.00 or so.

The thing is... with prices and current trends that have been oout for a long while now, they put out the PCIE cards for a reason. Incredibly more efficient and run alot better for graphics... prices for 940 socket boards and AM2 CPU's are sop cheap that its really a wastenot to just save a tad bit more and get a new board and CPU. memory is also very very cheap now for DDR2. actaully cheaper than the previous DDR, which is odd.

Yu can get a real nice AsRock ,or even a nice mid range Gigabyte board that support AM2 and CPU for like $160.00- 180.00 for both approx. Memory can be had for like 2GB at $45-100.00 to add to that.. A killer system for less than $300.00.
My whole upgrade with PSU cost around $430.00. My previous system cost well over $7-800.00 with my older DDR Memory at the time. Paid like $330.00 back when for it alone.

Unfortuenately, one needs ot go with PCIE nowadays.. and that just might require you to invest in a whole new platform, ratehr then pushing that older system any more. Please.... it is well worth it ,and the performance and graphics will blow ya away. No comparison.
