    folder lock

    well i have a few folders with files in them that i dont want other people seeing. i googled a few but i dont want to just install some program.. has anyone ever used such a program before or know of a trustworthy one?

    Are they on your PC or a server?

    oh sorry. right so its an asus w3j laptop. the files are on the local harddrive, some might be on an external harddrive. its running on windows xp pro.

    Ok, so other people use the laptop too?

    Do they have separate user login IDs?

    Have you looked at setting user permissions? The Windows help files can explain all you need to know.

    no the pc has only one login ID. other people use it sometimes though.

    why don't you just create a second user ID or enable guest?

    well i'm in a college dorm and if i ever forget to lock my pc i want these files password protected at all times. Steve R Jones thank you for the link, but do u know of a freeware one, not a 30day trial. and also one where it stays locked even after accessing it..

    Turn on your screen saver after 10 mins and set the password required option after a resume from screen saver. No one will be able to use it then if you also set a login password the same as the screen saver.
