Computer goes blank after Win XP loComputer goes blank after Win XP logo

I even tried reinstall Win XP fresh. After it loads the drivers and before it goes to the screen for installing or deleting it says, "Starting Windows" on the blue screen, then it goes black screen. No restart but all the fans are on.

I have switched out the hard drive, ram, ribbon cables, CD drive, unplugged the floppy drive, swapped out video cards, went into bios and clicked on Fail Safe settings and it does the same thing with any hardware that I put into this machine.
All capacitors look good. What am I missing? Can the mobo be fried and the caps still look good?

    This is a P4 2.4ghz, 512ram ddr, 80 gb.

But like I said I swapped out everything and it does the same thing.

It does sound like a CPU or mobo issue.

I agree CPU or mobo. I do have another CPU that I can stick in. Good idea.

I would try a different power supply.

I found that the fan/heatsink was loose. On close inspection I saw that two pieces of plastic that held down the fan/heatsink was missing so it was not tight to the processor and the Pentium 4 must of got hot and it always shut down at about the same time.
I now have replaced that bracket and it is not shutting down and Windows is installed now.
    What a job, huh?
    Thanks for your response.
