Can't "synchronize with an internet time server"
My clock has been off lately. I just found out that in XP I can set it to, "Automatically synchronize with an internet time server." (Double click on the clock, "Internet Time", "Update Now").
When I "Update Now" it tells me "an error occurred while Windows was synchronizing with time.windows.com".
So I see I can't connect to the time server. What can I do? Why isn't able to connect?

Read through the following thread about adding additional time servers:

Or you can use this internet time server as a free alternate:

Add one of these server IP addresses:

To make sure I did it right, can you give instructions on how?

I went back and re-read the link. "ntps1-1.uni-erlangen.de" worked. Thank you for the info.
I would like it to check updates sooner. How can I set an update period?

It does it once a week....If you're getting out of sync by more then a few seconds in one week, buy a new cmos battery...
You can check manually as often as you'd like.

It takes streaks, as to which one works when.

I thought the CMOS Battery works when the machine is turned off? It got out of sync whith the computer on.

The CMOS battery does store the time when the PC is turned off. If the clock loses or gains time when it is constantly turned on, then you have a mobo issue and it will need to be replaced or you can live with the time sync issue.

Battery a couple years old, replace it as that is cheap insurance.
But then again, I have installed programs cause the time to keep getting out of sinc.
This mobo had to have a new battery right from the factory as the battery was almost dead.

Thanks for reminding me. I use my computer for a DVR. I can set it to record and it will come on and record. It will shut off if I want it to.
That's why I need the correct time. I think that's the program causing it to not keep the right time. I have the latest drivers.
CMOS Battery might not work if it's the program. That's why I wanted windows to check more often.
Chris.
